"Bush Christmas" is the least gritty of the four films but the most believable and the least manipulative.

Bush Christmas can be described as an Australian western, albeit with a juvenile slant (indeed, it was produced on behalf of J. Arthur Rank's Children's Cinema Club). She's a mare belonging to Mr. Thompson, a sheep farmer and the father of three of the children: Helen (the oldest), John, and six-year-old Snow (so named for the color of his hair). It was one of the first films from Children's Entertainment Films, later the Children's Film Foundation.

Their only hope is that their horse, Prince, will win money in a New Year's race. The two men learn about Lucy. But their real plan is to find the thieves and get Lucy and the foal back. The film marked actress Nicole Kidman's first feature film role. The two men (a third one joins them later) prove to be horse thieves, and when Lucy and her foal turn up missing the next morning, the children know it must have been them.
Their only hope is that their horse, Prince, will win money in a New Year's race. I first saw this film back in 1990 (we still have the VHS tape we recorded it on back then) and although I'm now 13 years older the film still makes for an enjoyable viewing.Looking for something to watch?
