Crocodiles in these conditions osmoregulate primarily by drinking available freshwater.
It’s very colourful and we are staying in the market area which is totally insane and busy. We arrived yesterday in Nicaragua in the colonial town of Granada, it's pretty and sort of European in a way.
It's very colourful and we are staying in the market area which is totally insane and busy. We absolutely loved it and were out on the boat for about 4 hours in total going through narrow streams and wide rivers. The San Juan River or Río San Juan in Nicaragua, is a timeless passageway through dense tropical rain forest from Central America’s grandest lake to the Caribbean Sea.

From zip-wiring through tree-top canopies to climbing an active volcano, Nicaragua is a wonderful destination for a family adventure.
The farmer said he has lived there all his life and has never had the crocodiles attack any of his animals, but when we set off in the boat his tiny silly dog jumped in the water and swam after us for a bit which did seem to worry him quite a lot and he shouted at it until it went ashore. We’ll be in the Granada area for a few days and on Sunday we are going to dive in the crater of a volcano, and help collect data on fish for their research, apparently there are some species of fish which are only found in that lake it sounds pretty cool, info here Hello lovely, we got your postcard in the office today! We also saw 2 baby caimans that were about a foot long, plus a Costa Rican type of Kingfisher. We did get to stay in the home of a very nice family, who had a rooster which slept in the tree outside our bedroom window and started crowing at 3.40am, for about half an hour, then went back to sleep the bastard. The next day we went to the river Rio Frio with a farmer and the tour guide from the hostel in La Fortuna, which was quite a faff to organise but well worth it as it was a Crocodile tour set in the river that backed onto the farmers land and he is just starting to offer tours.

Drawn by year-round warm weather, colonial-era architecture and the freshwater Lake Nicaragua, travelers from around the world are flocking to Granada.
We arrived yesterday in Nicaragua in the colonial town of Granada, it’s pretty and sort of European in a way. A substantial population is known from the San Juan River along the border with Costa Rica.

There are no crocodiles, but the lake is famous for having freshwater bull sharks. American crocodiles exist throughout the entire San Juan River into the massive Lake Nicaragua (including a very small population on Ometepe Island) and up the Tipitapa River into the adjacent Lake Managua. In fact it was very brown as it rained the entire 6 hours we were there. It was really incredible and within a few minutes we had seen 2 caimans from the motor boat, by the end of the tour we had lost count of how many caimans and crocodiles we had seen, and we also saw a freshwater turtle which has an odd little face with a pink snout and looked very scared. The 1,344m high volcano is one of the most famous volcanoes in Nicaragua (which has 21 in total), because it’s so close to Granada and has a mystical cloud forest at the top.. More than 20.000 years ago, Mombacho Volcano erupted and spew boulders, ash and lava into Lake Nicaragua.
