Dwight enjoyed a full and fascinating life as a musician, artist, educator and school administrator. Born February 8, 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the only child of Roscoe Reed Smith and Mary Walters Smith. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of The Pines at Carolina Meadows and to UNC Hospice for the very compassionate and skilled care which they have provided since last September. Smith received a B.A. Serving the people of Alamance and Orange counties since 1922, with a tradition of neighborly care. He was a member of the First Church of God. He loved all sports, especially softball, and was a strong supporter of MSU basketball. This work marked the beginning of a career-long interest in the Johannine literature of the New Testament, about which Smith wrote a number of books and articles.
