Classic John Steinbeck adaptation is still powerful. One can sympathise with Loach's political sensibilities, but this film's shallowness, twee sensibility and transparent polemics make for an unchallenging viewing experience. Thus begins Dan's his entry into what the movie portrays as an unfeeling, dehumanizing social welfare bureaucracy. But his struggle for hundreds of thousands of people across the U.K. as a result of Conservative Austerity is very real. I hope to see this!

Directed by Ken Loach, from a screenplay by Paul Laverty. October 31, 2018 I found its tale of an unemployed man's struggle extremely moving but a bit heavy-handed.
