Two vaudeville performers fall in love, but find their relationship tested by the arrival of WWI. Small-town Indiana girl Lily Mars dreams to be a stage actress. Not only are the numerous actors and actresses good looking they are also talented. His first act is to become friendly with Kathryn Jones, the colonel's pretty daughter. The movie is great fun at a time in United States history when there was not much to laugh about. Acrobat Eddie Marsh is in the army now. Hoping his son will attend his alma mater, Judge Hardy agrees to let Andy look for work in New York for the summer before committing to start college. Two turn-of-the-century baseball players, who work in vaudeville during the off-season, run into trouble with their team's new female owner and a gambler who doesn't want them to win the pennant. In 1945, during a 48-hour leave, a soldier accidentally meets a girl at Pennsylvania Station and spends his leave with her, eventually falling in love with the lovely New Yorker. After a brief resumption (and resolution) of the earlier storyline, the film ends with Grayson leading an international chorus of men (the United Nations Chorus) in a song pleading for world peace.
