My review at CLAPPER:I intentionally feared this was going to be a pro-military love fest but it soon showed its true colors and because a fascinating look at how a family changes and goes through the ups and downs of life through a filter of being drawn to the military lifestyle.I thought i was prepared but even the expected stuff about how the children dealt with the trauma they have about their dad going to war, and how they process it (healthy or otherwise) racked my brain. First Class Brian Eisch is critically wounded in Afghanistan, it sets him and his sons on a journey of love, loss, redemption and legacy. Trying to interest his newly adopted son in more "manly" pursuits than reading and writing poetry, Isaiah Edwards buys a rifle for John Jr.'s birthday and stubbornly insists that the two of them go turkey hunting, even though the sensitive teenager has made it plain that he doesn't want to go. But Isaac admits that when his father is away, he feels like he has a 25-pound weight on his shoulders. And then to see how all of their lives changed so drastically after Brian was shot, and then Joey’s absolutely tragic death, took this documentary to a whole other level.
