I've not been able to watch due to USA settings on DVD, my Laptop set for UK only. This is definitely the movie to buy to keep as part of your collection and why spend all of that money on expensive Christmas gifts when you can give this movie as a gift to a few friends and family members that they will undoubtly enjoy. Admit it - when you stepped out of the theatre after watching Hong Kongfilmmaker artfully directed Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love (2000), you imagined yourself as Maggie Cheung, sashaying down the street in a pretty cheongsam.
We laugh along with the goofy Wan Guopeng, who leaves his village with the hope of making it big in showbiz. I know that they're not littered with profane language or sexual overtones, and that there is always some type of spiritual and life message that is nicely weaved throughout the movie. The story evolves around several young people chasing their dreams in Hengdian. Hong Kongdirector Derek Yee, who is best known for his heartbreakingly beautiful C’est la vie, mo cheri (1993), has a new feature film that pays tribute to the countless number of extras in Mainland China. A very endearing and overall a great movie. And while we chuckle at knowing the different rates of extras for walking around, lying in water, playing dead and fleshing skin, isn’t there a part of us realising that this is part of earning a living for survival? Highly recommended film. 2. In Hengdian, there is a 330 hectare Hengdian World Studios, where an unimaginable number of movies and serials are shot every year.
This is one of those wouldn't-it-be-good-if-life-worked-out-like-that movies.

I must say, that I have developed a quiet confidence with the movies that I've seen that were created and produced by "One Village Entertainment," and "Swirl Productions." Besides the exceptional story line, there were three additional things that I appreciated about this movie.
First, I loved the concept of the story line and I think that it was well written, acted, and that the flow of the movie was well orchestrated from scene to scene; from beginning to end. Real life and reel life come together, and you hear common folks sharing their dreams and experiences, occasionally dishing some worldly pieces of life advice.In the middle of China, there’s a town called Hengdian.
