Two aging spinster sisters have their peaceable Cornwall existence disrupted in 1936 when they take a young Polish violinist into their care. They play sisters, Janet and Ursula, who live in a house on the cliffs in Cornwall. Despite her sister’s concerns, Ursula falls in love with Andrea.
Thinking she'll never see him again, Ursula is heartbroken and Janet consoles her as best as she can. It was adapted from Charles Dance’s screenplay for his 2004 film Ladies in Lavender, which was itself based on a 1908 short story by William J. Locke. They nurse him back to health and discover that he is Polish.
"Ladies in Lavender" assembles those two great Dames, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, and sends them off to play sisters sharing a cozy little cottage on the Cornwall coast. What they do there is a disappointment. Olga tells her brother of Andrea's talent, and he asks to meet Andrea in London. Olga writes a letter to the sisters, telling them who she is and that she would like to introduce her brother to Andrea.
Storyline. Taking place in pre-World War II England, aging sisters Ursula (Dame Judi Dench) and Janet (Dame Maggie Smith) live peacefully in their cottage on the shore of Cornwall. Andrea, realizing that Ursula has feelings for him, apologizes for getting angry and they reconcile.

As time progresses, Olga and Andrea grow closer, and one day Andrea angrily confronts the sisters about the letter. When the Widdington sisters, Janet and Ursula, discover the handsome stranger washed up on the beach below their house, they nurse him back to health. Andrea later sends them a letter, along with a portrait of himself painted by Olga, thanking them for saving his life. However, the presence of the musically talented young man disrupts the peaceful lives of the sisters and the community in which they live. Although Andrea cares deeply for the sisters, he knows this is his chance to start a career, and he leaves with Olga without saying goodbye.
